TheHumanVet evolves from three passions inspired by the career and personal journey of Founder and Veterinary Surgeon, Sarah Finch (Caldwell) BSc (Hons) BVSc MRCVS.
Based in Cornwall, United Kingdom.
TheHumanVet is based in South East Cornwall, UK. Sarah and her husband live on a working farm, where together they manage a breeding flock of pedigree Lleyn ewes. Farming offers the 'other side of the coin' and provides TheHumanVet with a holistic and realistic approach to veterinary care and herd management.

My love of alpacas, their quirky characteristics and inquisitive nature developed shortly after qualifying as a vet in 2012, when I started attending to them in a professional capacity. It became quickly apparent that this species is unique in their husbandry and veterinary requirements, justifying a more specialist approach.

Maintaining my position as an experienced practicing farm vet, of which a large proportion of my clinical work is camelid based, provides a current, 'hands-on' approach to my consultancy advice. As an active member of the British Veterinary Camelid Society (BVCS), and recognised for my contribution to the camelid industry, I was awarded a scholarship to attend the International Camelid Conference in Oregon, USA in 2019. Furthermore, I have been the Honourary vet for the Cornwall Camelid Association (CCA) since 2016, providing hands-on and webinar-based training sessions within the UK and Ireland to support camelid owners and vets.
Being a vet is 70% people and 30% animals – TheHumanVet is driven to provide veterinary related knowledge in an interactive and down-to-earth manner to people, in order to achieve the highest level of care to animals – our fundamental aim.
Academia is not something that came naturally to me. Remembering the vast amounts of information was best achieved when applied in practical layers – just like unpeeling an onion (without the tears!). My teaching style is delivered the same way. In 2015 I was accredited by Lantra for the Train the Trainer qualification, which provides the tools to deliver theory in a practical, tailored way to appeal to the spectrum of learning styles. In 2023 I was accredited by CEVAS (the Countryside Educational Visits Accreditation Scheme) to deliver curriculum based educational visits for students on our home farm.

I am a great believer if you have a vision and work hard enough, you can achieve anything. To date I have supported a number of school and college students with the ambition to pursue their dreams in veterinary medicine, or equally as important, realising it wasn't for them.

My journey started when I was four and my dad built me a Wendy house in our garden – my veterinary surgery! Despite set-backs, including disappointing A-level results, I went on to achieve a 2.1 honours degree in Animal Science and subsequently a 2.1 degree in Veterinary Science, graduating with the 'Best Farm Animal Student' award of our year.

I started my career as a mixed vet subsequently specialising in farm work and further developing my alpaca niche, and in 2016 became a Practice Director; with a big emphasis on supporting graduate vets progressing in their careers.
In 2019 I took some time to reflect on my experiences, passions and future and made the decision to change veterinary practices and launch TheHumanVet. I am dedicated to my work and my next steps are to share and support others through consultancy, interactive learning and mentoring. We look forward to speaking with you.
